American Girl Sales

As of today March 12, American Girl has several sales and specials going on.

The current in store Purchase With Purchase will be available until April 12.

There is a 20% off Spring sale online and in stores for a variety of items including the limited edition sets that were just released.

The other American Girl sale that has been online for awhile has discounted some of the prices even more.

There is also an American Girl special on Zulily right now.

Also until March 24 you can use the code SPRINGFUN for free shipping on orders over $100 on American Girl's website.

Possible Archival of AG Caroline

There is a very active rumor right now that American Girl plans to retire Caroline this year. Caroline was released in 2012 and seems to sell well.
It seems that the possible archival could be a result of a pending lawsuit in Canada over the name Caroline. With American Girl expanding into Canada and Mexico its not surprising that they would run into at least one trademark conflict, it happened to Journey Girls and Springfield dolls as well. You can read the news article here.
How do you feel about the possible archival of Caroline?

Who Wore It Best Wednesday: Holiday Bib Outfit

Last week you saw MaKayla and Xian Xing modeling the retired Snowball Sweater set, this week it is the Holiday Bib Outfit by American Girl. I used the ribbon that came with the outfit to try to pull MaKayla's hair back but it didn't hold very well, it definitely worked better on Xian Xing's longer hair. I think the dark green looks great with MaKayla's hair color.

Who do you think it looks best on?

Flashback Friday: Daffodil from Rose Petal Place

A few weeks ago we featured Rose Petal from Rose Petal Place, this week we are featuring her friend Daffodil. Daffodil is one of my favorite characters from this line and I love her outfit. Daffodil is wearing a pale yellow dress and the bottom of the skirt flares out. It has a yellow bow with white polka dots on the dress and at the neck and the material is a little crinkly. She has yellow hair and a daffodil hat with a tear drop shaped gem on it. She has green painted eyes with blue eyelashes. Her shoes are painted on and the same shade of yellow as her hat, while her legs are a paler shade of yellow.

Which of the Rose Petal Place dolls is your favorite so far?

Who Wore It Best Wednesday: Snowball Sweater Set

I thought we would try something different this week and do some comparing. I am using the two cuties who live beside my computer MaKayla ( My American Girl 35) and Xian Xing (retired My American Girl 4) and the retired Snowball Sweater Set. You have seen MaKayla in this outfit for awhile now and Xian Xing wanted to try it on before it goes into the closet until next winter.

Who do you think wore it best?

Flashback Friday: American Girl Place Doll Costume Trunk

Happy Friday everyone! today's Flashback Friday features the retired American Girl Place Costume Trunk. This was a store exclusive several years ago when the theater in American Girl Place was still open. The set includes a doll size "Circle of Friends" poster, theater stickers to decorate the purple, metal trunk, six doll size tickets to the show, a magenta ruffled boa, a pair of black slip on shoes with multi color detailing on the sides, a magenta sequined shawl, elbow length silver gloves, a silver beaded necklace, a "CD" from "Circle of Friends" and a "CD" from "The American Girls Revue." The half circle case has a black handle and a metal snap closure to keep everything stored nice and securely. It seems to me that some of these items have reappeared in Rebecca's costume trunk. I ever got to see the shows at American Girl Place but I have heard positive things about it from those who did, it seems a shame that the theaters aren't open any more.

Did you ever see a show at the American Girl Place theater?

Flashback Friday: Cabbage Patch Toddler Kid

I know I'm a few days late, but it has been crazy here the last few days. The Flashback
Friday for this week (actually last week) is my adorable Cabbage Patch Toddler Kid. His birth certificate says his name is Garcia and he was found at an estate sale still in his box.  His box is copyrighted 1988 and he is the "Kid in the Middle." Cabbage Patch kids were created by Xavier Roberts in the late 70's. The story of the Cabbage Patch started appearing in 1983 and most dolls have a replica of Xavier Roberts signature on their bottom. All the dolls are "born" at Babyland General Hospital and each doll comes with a birth certificate with their first and middle name and adoption papers. The dolls have a soft hugable body and hard plastic head, most of the older ones have yarn hair, while the newer ones have nylon hair. Garcia has red looped yarn hair and green eyes and a dimple in his left cheek. His red jumper has green cars, the words "speed limit 55", "vroom" and "honk" on it. He is wearing red and white hard plastic tennis shoes and white socks. He is in great shape for his age and is a real cutie.
Do you have any Cabbage Patch Kids?

Flashback Friday: Rose Petal Place, Rose Petal Doll

As I have said before, I have been collecting dolls since before I understood what collecting really was. So this new weekly post will be dedicated to dolls and doll items that are discontinued. Today we are going to feature Rose Petal Place's Rose Petal doll.

look at that giant purse
The Rose Petal Place dolls, there are six flower themed dolls plus a few accessories, were released in the mid 1980s by Kenner and are similar to Strawberry Shortcake dolls. Each doll was scented and dressed in an outfit representing their respective flower and are about 5 to 6 inches tall. Rose Petal is the leader and main star of the group. She is dressed in a pink rose petal dress, with a matching hat that is shaped like a rose and the hat has a tear drop shaped "rhinestone" on it. The reason behind the tear drop shaped stone on the hat is in the original story and little girl is sad about leaving her flower garden when she moves. She cries and her tears fall on the flowers and bring them to life. Rose Petal has pink hair and came with a matching drawstring purse. These dolls were only available for about two years but many accessories and memorabilia was made around the show. Rose Petal's house and car were released, along with fashion packs for each doll, the villain Natasha (a spider) was also released. There was also a board game, which I received as a hand me down along with the dolls, from a cousin of mine as a child.

Even though these dolls were not available very long they are still relatively easy to find on Ebay , some are even sealed in the box.
There will be more of Rose Petal and her friends in coming weeks.

such a sweet face

Becky friend of Barbie

Over the past year or so there has been a push for more diversity in doll lines. People want dolls without hair to represent children with illnesses that have caused them to lose their hair, dolls with disabilities that require hearing aids, wheelchairs or crutches. I think it is a great way to raise awareness and open discussions with youngsters when done tastefully. I was pleased to see the True Hope dolls, and the bald American Girl doll, and all of the accessories that were made for the line.

A few months ago I received as a gift a doll I had never seen before. She is a Barbie's friend Becky doll. Becky is the school photographer and is a friend of Barbie's. She helped Barbie create a scrapbook that was included with the doll. Becky has long light brown and blond hair, and comes with red sunglasses, a yearbook, and her camera around her neck. This doll was released in the late 90s and only three versions of her were made. The doll was considered very popular but because she was in a wheelchair she didn't really fit into Barbie's world. The wheelchair was originally too wide to fit in the elevator of Barbie's dream house. There were complaints about the length of her hair, that it was unrealistic for a person in a wheelchair to have hair that long. So after only three releases Becky was discontinued and so was Mattel's attempts at a disabled doll until recently. I just wanted to share with you the first disabled Barbie and get your opinion on her.

Flashback Friday: American Girl Holiday Bib Outfit

This outfit is one of my favorite Holiday outfits ever released by Pleasant Company (now American Girl). The outfit was released for the holiday seasoon in the late 1990's. It consists of dark green velour bib overalls with gold accents, gold slipper shoes, an ivory colored satin like blouse with rhinestone buttons that velcros in the back, a Girl of Today logo necklace, and a green and gold hair ribbon. I think it looks great on our model with her dark hair.
